2011-0220 Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival-1909

Randy Brecker watches Paul Carr wailing on Thelonious Monk's "Rhythm-a-ning" as Harold Sumney plays drums and Bobby Broom is on guitar. Brecker, who was a featured soloist with the Carr conducted Jazz Academy of Music Orchestra (composed of students from Carr's Jazz Academy) earlier in the evening, was brought on by Carr during the end of his set that was the last featured performance at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival and concluded three days of some terrific music in Rockville, Maryland. After this number they got into a terrific down-in-the alley blues where Carr's Teas roots were clearly evident. Not seen in this photo was the bassist Michael Bowie and the astonishing Allyn Johnson on piano.
